Blue Man Group & Virgin Entertainment Group Join Forces to Create a DVD 5.1 Surround Sound Listening Booth

Blue Man Group, in conjunction with Virgin Entertainment Group, North America has designed and created a revolutionary custom DVD booth that will showcase the 5.1 surround sound mix of their Grammy nominated, debut album, AUDIO.

The booth is 8 feet tall and 7 feet wide and resembles a giant PVC tube, like those Blue Man Group uses in their hit shows. The booth makes its debut in the Virgin Megastore, Las Vegas in the Caesar’s Forum Shops. Current plans are for the booth to remain in Las Vegas store for six months.

The booth will be unveiled Thursday, December 5, 2002 with a press event at 4:00 p.m. at the Virgin Megastore at Caesar’s Forum. The Blue Man Group will unveil the booth. An additional photo opportunity will be the Blue Man Group as the first to enter and enjoy its sound. Refreshments will be served and representatives from Blue Man Group Records and Virgin Entertainment Group will be available for interview.

The overall look of the booth parallels Blue Man’s world of tubes, black lights and modern art. Its design allows the listeners to experience the true thrill of DVD 5.1 surround sound technology from the “sweet spot” of the listening area — perfectly positioned in the middle of the booth where the listener can experience the sound and feel of every element of the recording.

The combination of the booth design and the sound system provided by Bose creates an intimate surround sound experience. Upon stepping into the booth, consumers will get a rare glimpse into the world of Blue Man Group. In addition to Blue Man Group’s surround sound mix of AUDIO, which has been on Soundscan’s DVD-A album chart for 81, a plasma TV screen will showcase slides from Blue Man Group’s Las Vegas show, Blue Man Group-Live At Luxor.

Blue Man Group’s Audio was one of the first releases in the DVD-Audio format, and it remains a popular demonstration piece among DVD-A enthusiasts

The booth will mark the first custom artist listening experience in a major music retail store, a step that demonstrates Virgin Entertainment’s commitment to support artist initiatives and think outside the box of traditional retail promotions.

“We are very excited to work with Blue Man Group and present the true quality of DVD Audio in such an innovative way,” said Dave Alder, Senior Vice President, Product and Marketing, Virgin Entertainment Group, North America.

Seth Freed, General Manager of Blue Man Group Records adds, “We are thrilled that music fans will be able to experience 5.1 surround sound technology. It is such a cool way to listen to our music. It is really exciting to see a major retailer focus on non-traditional artists and a new technology.”

To celebrate the launch of the booth, Virgin Megastore, Las Vegas will be holding an “enter to win” contest that offers a pair of tickets to see Blue Man Group — Live At Luxor, and a copy of the AUDIO CD and the 5.1 surround sound mix.
